History of Iitala - The Finnish Glass Design Pioneers

Founded back in 1881, the Finnish glass giant - Iittala - established itself as one of the first glass factories to make the transition from decorative dinner sets to functional & aesthetically pleasing objects.

As modernism and functionalism started to heavily influence the Scandinavian design during the 1930's, Iittala set the foundations of its design philosophy for years to come by working with design pioneers such as Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, Kaj Franck, Timo Sarpaneva and etc.

With the common belief that objects should be designed to last a lifte-time and available for everyone, Iitala showcases various affordable collections that not only push boundaries of glass design but also give people beauty and function.

“The core idea behind Iittala is to offer aesthetically and functionally durable products that bring enjoyment and pleasure to everyday life, whether it is about dining, creating a mood or storing small items at home.” explains Iitalla.

“We believe quality never goes out of fashion. The effort put into quality design has paid off: the Iittala collection includes not only new design but also items that have been around for more than 80 years.”
